Colonization severed many of these relationships, leading to cultural, psychological, and physical trauma among Indigenous peoples. The process of neurodecolonization offers a way to heal these historical and ongoing traumas by re-integrating traditional practices—grounded in the land—with modern therapeutic techniques such as mindfulness, somatic experiencing, and intentional land-based healing.
